Aboriginal Partnerships To Power Ontario for Decades

A new era in hydroelectric power development has begun in Ontario, based on an innovative commercial partnership that benefits First Nations, Ontario Power Generation (OPG), and all Ontarians. The story begins with the 2006 settlement of a past grievance by OPG and the Lac Seul First Nation in northwest Ontario. The settlement addressed the impact of hydro facilities built on traditional lands of the First Nation on the English River system near Ear Falls, between 1930 and 1948. The past grievance settlement was the beginning of a unique partnership, a first for Ontario’s electricity sector.
